TILT CREATIVE + PRODUCTION
Tilt is a creative studio rooted in film, animation, and audio. As a minority and women owned team working in a historic corner of Richmond’s Shockoe neighborhood, they wanted a space that honored the site’s past while supporting their contemporary practice. The 1870s building had a complex layout, so the design opened the plan, revealed the timber frame, and restored historic windows to bring clarity and warmth back to the architecture. Exposed brick now anchors the studio and shapes the palette.
Layered textures, bold color, and artwork by local and Black creators reflect the team’s spirit and keep the space connected to the community. Custom pieces and acoustic elements soften open areas and highlight the building’s natural character.
Light was key. Revived skylights draw daylight through shared paths and gathering points. A mix of private rooms, quiet nooks, and generous collaboration zones gives the team space to focus, connect, and recharge. Editing suites, phone rooms, and open workstations follow a rhythm that supports both detailed work and lively exchanges.
A full kitchen, inviting team spaces, and soft materials round out the environment. The result is a studio that feels grounded, imaginative, and deeply tied to the people who bring it to life.
